History

Erciyes University Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established in 1982 according to the sub-article (a) of the Article 25 of the Decree Law No. 41 published in the Official Gazette dated 20 July, 1982 and numbered 17768. The faculty started education with a total of four departments including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Turkish Language and Literature in the 1984-1985 Academic Year. Later, the departments of Astronomy and Space Sciences, Biology, History, English Language and Literature, Philosophy, Art History and Sociology were opened and continued education until 04.03.2010.


In accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 05.02.2010, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed, and it was decided to establish the Faculties of Science and Letters separately. The relevant decision was published in the Official Gazette dated 04 March 2010 and numbered 27511 and came into force, and the Faculty of Science, with the departments of Astronomy and Space Sciences, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, was established. Our faculty, which had 29 academic staff in the year it was founded, today has reached a total of 100 academic staff including 51 professors, 19 associate professors, 7 assistant professors, 11 lecturers and 12 research assistants. Our faculty currently continues its formal education activities in five departments; Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Mathematics, and Biology, in its buildings consisting of four blocks.
