Program Key Learning Outcomes



Students who successfully graduate from our department will be able to:

  1. Evaluate and interpret historical developments in the field of Astronomy and Space Sciences. Explain the relationship between matter and energy.
  2. Understand the structure, formation, and evolution of the universe; evaluate the diversity of celestial bodies in the universe with scientific, theoretical, and observational methods.
  3. Evaluate the physical and chemical properties of celestial bodies and their locations and shapes by using various coordinate and measurement systems. Explain the members of the solar system and the Sun together with their effects on the Earth. Understand and interpret the properties of exoplanet systems.
  4. Gain the ability to use basic knowledge of physics and mathematics to understand Astronomy and Space Sciences.
  5. Gain knowledge of using observation instruments and measurement techniques.
  6. Process these images by defining the variety of digital and astronomical images.
  7. Derive information about the properties and evolution of the source from photons recorded with observation instruments.
  8. Collect and analyze astronomical data, interpret the results with theoretical models by applying error analysis.
  9. Create projects in the fields related to Astronomy and Space Sciences, analyze the problems related to the subjects with computer knowledge and find the solutions by preparing programs with various programming languages.
  10. Use and interpret the data from Gamma to Radio of the electromagnetic spectrum and from satellites to ground observations. Know the space weather, satellites, satellite orbits, and space technologies in near space.
  11. Think critically and creatively to solve the problems he/she encounters and uses different methods and up-to-date techniques to reach the solution.
  12. Possess the responsibility to share their thoughts and knowledge with society on astronomy, science, technology, mathematics, physics, and informatics in secondary education.
  13. Use and share computational and statistical information with the public and private sectors.
  14. Convey his/her knowledge and thoughts to society on astronomy issues and performs the right guidance.
  15. Gain an overview of all basic sciences, owns the consciousness of following the developments in science and technology and keeping their professional knowledge and skills up to date; do interdisciplinary group works and use time effectively; improve professional responsibility and ethical awareness.
  16. Have at least one foreign language at a level to be able to follow the latest developments and information; write, present and discuss scientific studies by communicating with colleagues.
  17. Use the Turkish language correctly and elegantly as a means of written and verbal expression in terms of language-thought connection.
  18. Have the consciousness to bring our country to an advanced level in line with Atatürk''s thoughts, opinions, and principles.
